Session with Sam and Sean
Ready To Get Started!
Right from the get-go, Sean begins his
story declaring that he is a Platinum Powerseller on eBay. When
reading page 5, a red flag goes up when I read about selling a
product for $200 that you paid $100 for...well, it is rather
misleading.
In the massive research that I did back
in 2010, profit margins were typically low, so to throw out a comment
like that might give those new to ecommerce the wrong idea.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that
I think Sean said that with the intent to mislead, as he was just
giving an easy example to mathematically relate to off-the-cuff.
Investigate and Evaluate:
So, if you plan to follow this business
model, I strongly suggest that you investigate the products you want
to carry, calculate the profit margin, and see whether it is
feasible. If not, and you really want to carry the product, look for
another company.
You see, one thing I know when dealing
with dropshippers as with any company, the more you buy and sell, the
lower your costs of purchase will be, but it doesn't happen
overnight.
You have to work at that relationship
with your dropshippers, just as you do with your visitors and build
trust. They won't just hand out the best deals or priced from the
very start of the your business relationship.
So, as long as you don't take that
great profit margin that Sean threw out to heart and expect that to
actually happen, and certainly not every time, you'll do just fine.
It doesn't mean that it can't happen that you will find a great deal
to make a profit on. Just make smart, educated decisions.
In case study 1: Sean goes on to
disclose his joining a particular ecommerce company, that has since
in late 2012 disappeared off the face of the earth. I'll have to
check it out and see if I can find out why. Although, I will say
that it was from a diminishing market that is not has highly in
demand today as it was a couple of years ago.
Case study 2: In this example,
Sean proved something that I stumbled upon just last year. Seeing
that he came to the same conclusion makes me feel more comfortable
about venturing out to ecommerce, in hopes of achieving more than
favorable profits potential, than one could expect from affiliate
programs, such as Amazon, etc. Pay particular attention to the last
line on page 7. That's exactly what I am referring to when it comes
to ecommerce and why might well benefit from eCommerce Mastery.
Beginning on page 8 is where this
product addresses some of the concerns I originally had with the idea
of having a dropshipping and ecommerce business in the first place.
Sean gives some great advice on how to tell whether you should stay
away from a particular supplier as well.
Hmmmm...an interesting
observation...Sean shows an example of a forum that has active
involvement where you might well come in contact with possible
suppliers, but never reveals the source of the forum. Why is that?
It would have been so helpful to his readers to have this
information.
At any rate, on the following page, he
shows you simple search queries that you can use to find forums
dedicated to your needs. So now, I hope that you will put this to
good use and find the necessary resources to help you with your
business ventures. I have one suggestion to make, though, that I
noticed was inadvertently left out. Be sure to include the word
“forum” in your search query.
Trends Can Produce WILD expectations:
One of the niche areas that I found
intriguing was #2 on page 11-12. Just keep in mind that on page 12,
while people were offering these products for outlandish offers,
think about it.
Just how many people who jumped on that bandwagon
actually made any money? That's the question. Do your due diligence
and research thoroughly before opting to doing something similar in
the future.
How Brave Are YOU As An eCommerce Entrepreneur?
On page 13, I've entertained that idea
in the past, but never felt secure in doing this. I could see too
many things going wrong and suffering a financial loss that I
couldn't afford. However, I will say that that if you can manage to
find a importer/distributor who imports the goods you are looking for
into our country, then you will definitely benefit from the
arrangement.
Number 4: I personally joined this
first site and I must say that it an expensive investment, but many
have found it beneficial.
Perhaps, I didn't stick with it long
enough for me to be successful in achieving my goals, but at the
time, there were just too many unknowns. Now, I'm wiser, so I'll be
giving it another look.
eCommerce Mastery also includes some other helpful
sites for locating suppliers for products you wish to sell. Pay close
attention to the last sentence. It is good advise to live by when
dealing with new companies and want to get a REAL feel for what your
customer would experience.
Number 6, Fast Start: (on page 14)
represents an area of recent investigation, so this plays into future
plans. Although, I hadn't considered putting it on eBay, but rather
was considering doing another unique approach that I don't see too
many people pursuing yet.
Pg. 15 Case Study 1: goes into the
concepts presented on page 14 and provides examples of using this
strategy on eBay. I found it the “free” option a wonderful find,
if you aren't familiar with it.
Case Study 2: I really enjoyed the
idea of doing this. I could see this working well on Fiverr, as
well. But I must say, I really question whether this seller was
making any money offering these services, because of the cost of the
supplies to implement the service for the amount being charged.
Case Study 3: Again, this is a service
that I could also see being offered on Fiverr as well, should you
choose to do so. This is the classic example of provide a service
for something that was not previously provided in a popular format.
Note: The source that you could
use for distribution services is a popular one, but it may be cost
prohibitive, so again, do the math before you go hog wild on this!
Case Study 4: This is one of my
favorites overall! Because of a love I have for a particular
television series from 1962-1971. This just happens to be something
that I have always wanted to do something with.
One of the great things about an
ecommerce site is that it allows you to brand yourself in a unique
way and become an authority site, should you desire to do so.
eCommerce Mastery hits on a couple of areas where
entrepreneurs have capitalized on doing just that. Although, the
areas where this occurs most is in highly competitive niches, so I'm
not sure how well one would fair overall. (Hint: see pg. 20, last
paragraph.)
eCommerce Mastery briefly offers up
suggestions for places where you can list your products. I have to tell you that most, if not all of these, you have already thought of and have been using for years!
In addition, you are provided with ideas for listing your product and urged to take advantage of the social aspect to help you drive traffic to your site.
In addition, you are provided with ideas for listing your product and urged to take advantage of the social aspect to help you drive traffic to your site.
On any given day, I would suggest that
you pay attention to whatever sites you visit. You can learn a lot
from what you observe. With eCommerce/dropshipping, or online
marketing in general, you will find it extremely valuable to do so.
Stay with me, as I continue to lead you through eCommerce Mastery. If you feel I have given you enough information to make an educated, buying decision, I encourage you to click on here.
